You’ve probably shared an opinion recently on the new Instagram feature, ‘Instagram Stories’ and no doubt you’ve compared it to the ever growing app, Snapchat. A bold move by Instagram that has allowed users to adapt the Snapchat like feature to the advancing social media app.

This now means that people who manage business accounts can effortlessly bring their content to life by taking customers behind the scenes. The feature allows users to add text and drawing tools to enhance posts. Similar to Snapchat, the video is only stored for 24 hours, which allows for a business to keep content current…bonus!

With 55 million photos and 86.4 million comments posted on a daily basis this platform is a marketing tool not to be dismissed. Visual content is becoming more and more popular on social media and is becoming increasingly important for brands to create and leverage.


For a user to view your business’ story, your followers must tap on your profile photo. This will allow them to jump from each story at their own pace by tapping to go back and forward or swiping to go to another account.

Stories are opportunities for for brands to run Q&A sessions allowing users and customers of theirs to send questions in via Instagram Direct. It also allows you to use this as an additional promotional avenue. The rise in one to one communication has allowed for live video content and an opportunity for brands to build closer relationships with their customers.

Instagram can offer a whole spectrum of opportunities including increased impressions, building trust and personality, increasing traffic to your website and engaging with your target market. It’s important not to forget that Instagram’s new story feature is a content builder in itself. Not only do Instagram stories allow you to build content, they allow you to download your photos and videos so that you can use them at a later date.
